Ensure a Smooth Recovery
To promote healing after your procedure, we recommend that you:
- Schedule a friend or loved one to drive you to and from surgery
- Fill any prescriptions Dr. Robles provides and purchase any recommended supplies
- Arrange to take off from work for the directed period of time
- Refrain from eating and drinking before surgery as advised
You will not be able to drive for the first two to three weeks after surgery, so you should arrange for transportation accordingly.
What to Expect Immediately After a Thigh Lift
After surgery, Dr. Robles can apply bandages and a compression garment, which will hold your incisions in place and aid in healing. We can then review post-operative care instructions, including the proper time to take medications, the best way to avoid stress on your incisions, and the best way to identify signs of infection. Dr. Robles can also demonstrate how to empty surgical drains if necessary.

During the first 24 hours after your surgery, you can apply ice packs to ease any bruising and swelling. You should also get plenty of rest, and use pillows to take pressure off your legs. You should avoid squatting or any position that may stretch your incisions and refrain from strenuous activities. We do recommend walking around the house, which can promote blood circulation and accelerate the healing process. After two days, you may remove your compression garment to shower and gently clean your thighs.
A Week after Your Procedure
After one week, you can return to our office for a follow-up visit. During this time, Dr. Robles can ensure your incisions are healing properly and may remove your sutures and drains.
Returning to Work and Normal Activities
Most patients are able to return to work two to three weeks after thigh lift surgery. While your scars will still be visible, but they will begin to fade over time. You should continue to wear your compression garment at all times, except when you are changing your bandages or washing. At this point, most patients can resume driving and gentle exercise.
Your Final Results
Your recovery timeline will ultimately depend upon the extent of your procedure and the rate at which your body recovers. However, for most patients, swelling should subside within six to twelve months, at which point you can enjoy a slimmer, more youthful appearance.
