BOTOX Cosmetic

Everyday stress, environmental factors, and the natural aging process can all contribute to facial lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive treatment that can reduce years of wrinkles and lines for a more youthful appearance.

At Robles Plastic Surgery in Phoenix, AZ, Dr. Ramon Robles will carefully plan your BOTOX Cosmetic treatment to achieve the best results.

How Does BOTOX Cosmetic Work?

Woman receiving BOTOX injection

BOTOX Cosmetic is an FDA-approved injectable derived from botulinum toxin. As of 2021, the FDA has approved BOTOX Cosmetic for use in three areas: forehead lines, crow's feet, and glabellar lines. Botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles responsible for lines and wrinkles. In turn, the wrinkles relax, resulting in a smoother, fuller appearance.

Who Is a Candidate for BOTOX Cosmetic?

BOTOX Cosmetic is a versatile procedure that is safe and effective for patients between the ages of 18 and 65. Patients considering BOTOX Cosmetic should have a clear understanding of the treatment and reasonable expectations for their outcome. It should be noted that individuals who are pregnant or nursing are not eligible for this procedure.

BOTOX treatment areas

This treatment can be used to address a wide range of cosmetic concerns, including:

  • Forehead lines
  • Frown lines
  • Lip lines
  • Crow’s feet (the lines that extend from the outer corners of the eyelids)
  • Wrinkles around the mouth, neck, and chin

The Treatment Process

In most cases, BOTOX Cosmetic treatment should only take about ten minutes at our Phoenix practice. In fact, it is often referred to as a “lunchtime facial” for that very reason.
BOTOX Cosmetic treatment can be completed in about ten minutes.

Consultation

To determine if BOTOX Cosmetic is right for you, Dr. Robles will see you for an initial consultation. During this visit, he will review your health history in detail to make sure there are no contraindications to treatment. He will also ask about your aesthetic goals to make sure that BOTOX Cosmetic is the most appropriate option.

Injection Plan

Once he has a clear understanding of your objectives, Dr. Robles will carefully choose the best locations to inject the BOTOX Cosmetic for the most favorable results. He will also recommend the amount of BOTOX Cosmetic needed to provide natural-looking effects in each area. To develop your treatment plan, he may ask you to move or contract certain facial muscles to see where lines form.

Injections

To begin, Dr. Robles will use a tiny needle to inject the BOTOX Cosmetic directly into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Discomfort during this process is minimal. In many cases, local anesthesia is not even necessary. The injection process typically takes less than five minutes.

Recovery

After treatment, patients can return to normal activities right away. However, patients should avoid touching the injection site for at least 12 hours after the treatment.

Side Effects and Results: FAQs

How Soon Can I See My Results?

In most cases, patients will notice a marked improvement in their appearance within a few days. These results will continue to develop over the next month.

How Long Do BOTOX Cosmetic Results Last?

Following BOTOX Cosmetic treatment, patients can expect their results to last for about three to four months on average. Once the effects wear off, you can undergo another treatment session to maintain your results.

How Long Do Side Effects Last?

The most common side effects of BOTOX Cosmetic include discomfort, tenderness, swelling, bruising, and itchiness at the injection site. Discomfort typically goes away as soon as the injection process is complete, but tenderness, itchiness, swelling, and bruising may take a few days or few weeks to subside.

What Should I Avoid after Treatment?

Patients should avoid strenuous physical activity, touching the treatment area, overexposure to heat or the sun, facials, massages, blood thinners, travel, and alcohol for the first 24 hours after BOTOX Cosmetic treatment.

Types of Injectables

With so many injectable options on the market, it can be difficult to know which is right for you. First, it is important to understand the differences between botulinum toxin-based products like BOTOX Cosmetic and the other injectable options on the market.

Botulinum Toxin Products

Injectable products like BOTOX Cosmetic, BOTOX®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® contain very small amounts of botulinum toxin. Soon after it is administered, injectable products containing botulinum toxin temporarily paralyze the muscles, which relaxes them.

This offers a number of uses and benefits, including reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles for patients getting BOTOX Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin injections; BOTOX can treat a number of medical conditions, including migraines. Of these treatments, Dr. Robles offers BOTOX Cosmetic, which has a long record of success.

Fillers

Fillers contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which "fill in" lines and wrinkles. The gel-like substance is used to add volume at the injection site. At our Phoenix practice, also serving Scottsdale and surrounding areas, we offer JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and RADIESSE® to minimize the appearance of facial wrinkles and plump up the cheeks or lips.

BOTOX vs. BOTOX Cosmetic

Did you know that there are actually two types of BOTOX injection products on the market?

BOTOX Cosmetic

BOTOX Cosmetic is the treatment that most of our patients are familiar with; this effective product addresses facial lines and wrinkles.

BOTOX

BOTOX is a product that addresses medical conditions. BOTOX injections can treat chronic migraines, adult and pediatric muscle stiffness, severe underarm sweating, overactive bladder, eyelid spasms, strabismus, and cervical dystonia. Although Dr. Robles doesn't offer BOTOX for medical conditions, he does offer BOTOX Cosmetic.

I had a great experience with Dr. Robles. He is very honest with his feedback and compassionate about his patients. From the start he was respectful with what I wanted done and reasonable. He also uses a precise technique that allows the recovery process to be much quicker than average! It has been almost a year now and I’m very happy with the results. Very grateful I chose him & would definitely (& do!) recommend to others.
